NDIS Digital Platform Providers Transition Pathway for July 2026

If you operate an online marketplace that connects NDIS participants with workers or providers, July 2026 is a key date to plan for. The NDIS Commission has confirmed that mandatory registration for NDIS digital platform providers starts from 1 July 2026, under a new registration group called 0137 NDIS digital platform service.

The transition pathway depends on where you sit right now:

    • you are already a registered NDIS provider operating a platform
    • you are currently unregistered and operating a platform
    • you are a new entrant planning to operate a platform after 1 July 2026

What Is an NDIS Digital Platform Provider

An NDIS digital platform provider is an organisation that operates a digital marketplace or platform that connects participants with workers or providers to deliver NDIS supports. These platforms often enable participants to find support options, engage workers, and manage service arrangements through online tools.

Because platforms can facilitate high-volume interactions and service relationships that are not always visible in the same way as traditional provider settings, the NDIS Commission reforms focus on strengthening safeguards and accountability. The transition pathway introduces mandatory registration and conditions that relate to worker clearances, banning order visibility, and credential or qualification checking and display.

What Changes for NDIS Digital Platform Providers from 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, the Commission’s pathway materials describe mandatory registration for digital platform providers under the new registration group 0137 NDIS digital platform service.

Key Date: New Conditions Apply from 1 January 2027

New conditions apply from 1 January 2027 for registration group 0137. These conditions include:

    • Worker clearance: workers must have a valid worker clearance before offering to provide NDIS supports via the platform, and they cannot “work on application”.
    • Banning order checks: platforms must check and display banning order information where required.
    • Credentials or qualifications checks: platforms must check and display credential or qualification information and provide information on the checking process.

Transition Pathway for Existing Registered NDIS Digital Platform Providers

journey map - NDIS digital platform- Registered provider

This pathway applies if you are already an NDIS registered provider and operating an NDIS digital platform before 1 July 2026.

    Step 1: Awareness and Preparation

Prepare for the mandatory registration change and the practical implications of the 0137 conditions that start from January 2027.

Step 2: Registration Updated to Add Group 0137

The Commission’s pathway states it will update relevant registration certificates to include 0137 NDIS digital platform service.

Step 3: Implement the 0137 Conditions from 1 January 2027

From January 2027, ensure your platform workflows meet the worker clearance requirement before workers can offer supports, and implement the required checks and display requirements for banning orders and credentials.

Practical tip: Treat this like a product change project. If your platform currently allows a worker to list, offer, or accept work before clearance is confirmed, that workflow will likely need redesign well before January 2027.

Transition Pathway for Existing Unregistered NDIS Digital Platform Providers

journey map - NDIS digital platform- Unregistered provider

This pathway applies if you are an unregistered provider operating an NDIS digital platform before 1 July 2026.

The Commission’s pathway describes that providers can continue operating during the transition process if they follow the steps.

Step 1: Prepare for Registration and Digital Platform Obligations

Get ready for registered provider obligations and the digital platform obligations that apply from 1 July 2026.

If you are building your evidence base for registration and audit readiness, strengthening your “always-on” compliance systems early will reduce rework. Useful foundations include record keeping and incident management systems:

Step 2: Apply for Registration After 1 July 2026 and Before 1 October 2026

The pathway states you must submit a valid registration application for 0137 NDIS digital platforms services (and any other relevant groups) after 1 July 2026 and before 1 October 2026.

Step 3: Audit Process and Application Review

The pathway describes that the provider:

    • engages an Approved Quality Auditor (AQA) and completes the initial audit
    • responds to Commission questions during review if required
    • can continue delivering supports while a registration decision is being made

Step 4: Registration Decision and What Happens If Not Approved

If approved, you receive a registration certificate including 0137 and then implement the new conditions from 1 January 2027. If not approved, the pathway states you cannot deliver NDIS digital platform services.

Transition Pathway for New NDIS Digital Platform Providers After 1 July 2026

This pathway applies if you plan to enter the market as a digital platform provider after 1 July 2026.

The pathway makes it clear that new providers cannot operate an NDIS digital platform until the registration decision is made.

Step 1: Apply for Registration for 0137 and Other Relevant Groups

Submit a valid application after 1 July 2026, receive the audit scope, and complete the initial audit with an Approved Quality Auditor.

Step 2: Complete Audit and Respond During Review

Complete the audit and respond to any Commission questions during the application review.

Step 3: Registration Decision and Conditions from 1 January 2027

If approved, you receive a certificate and can commence NDIS digital platform services. The new conditions apply from 1 January 2027. If not approved, you cannot deliver NDIS digital platform services.

Provider Checklist to Be Ready for July 2026

    1. Confirm Which Pathway Applies to You

    • Unregistered provider operating a platform before 1 July 2026: apply after 1 July 2026 and before 1 October 2026
    • New provider after 1 July 2026: registration decision required before operating

    2. Build a January 2027 Conditions-Ready Plan

The new conditions affect platform design and operational controls, including:

    • worker onboarding and the rule that a worker must have clearance before offering supports
    • banning order checks and required display
    • credential or qualification checks and display, including describing how checks are done

    3. If You Need to Apply, Get Audit-Ready Early
